Our Design Process
How a project comes together.
Eight stages, from first conversation to handover. Each one tells you what to expect and what we may need from you.
Not every project uses every stage. The scope we agree with you sets which stages apply and in what order.
Stage 1: Initial enquiry
You tell us about the space and what you hope to change.
What to expect
A reply to arrange a short introductory call, where we talk through the project, likely scope and how we might work together.
What we may need from you
- Location and type of space
- A rough idea of timing and budget
- Any photos you already have
Stage 2: Discovery consultation
A longer conversation, ideally in the space itself.
What to expect
We listen to how the space is used, what works and what does not, and the feeling you are hoping for. Afterwards we confirm scope and fees in writing.
What we may need from you
- Everyone who will make decisions, if possible
- Images of spaces you like (and dislike)
- Must-keep furniture or pieces
Stage 3: Space assessment and requirements
We record the space accurately and agree the brief.
What to expect
Measurements, photographs and notes on light, services and condition, followed by a written brief that becomes the reference for every later decision.
What we may need from you
- Existing drawings, if available
- Building-management or landlord rules
- Access for a site visit
Stage 4: Concept development
The first visual and spatial direction.
What to expect
Layout options, a mood and material board, and a colour direction presented together so you can see how ideas connect. We refine after your feedback.
What we may need from you
- Honest feedback
- Decisions on the preferred direction
Stage 5: Design refinement
Turning the direction into a buildable, buyable design.
What to expect
Developed layouts, lighting concepts, joinery design intent and finishes. Drawings are prepared to the level needed for contractor pricing.
What we may need from you
- Timely approvals on key items
- Introductions to any contractor you already work with
Stage 6: Material and furniture selection
Choosing the pieces and finishes.
What to expect
Shortlists, samples and a schedule with suppliers, lead times and costs, so you can approve with confidence. We can assist with ordering where agreed.
What we may need from you
- Approval of samples and schedules
- Payment to suppliers on their terms
Stage 7: Coordination with suppliers or contractors
Where included in the engagement.
What to expect
We answer design questions, review samples and attend agreed site visits. Construction and specialist work remain the responsibility of the contractors carrying them out.
What we may need from you
- Appointment of contractors
- Availability for site decisions
Stage 8: Styling and handover
Finishing the space and closing the project.
What to expect
Furniture placement and styling where in scope, a walk-through of the finished space, and a handover pack with finishes, suppliers and care notes.
What we may need from you
- Access on the styling day
- Any final feedback
On timing and fees
Timeframes depend on the size of the space, the scope of work and supplier lead times, so we give an estimate after the discovery consultation rather than before.
Fees are agreed in writing before design work begins. If the scope changes, we discuss it with you first.
Start with a conversation.
An initial consultation is the easiest way to understand whether we're the right fit — and what your project might involve.
